Explaining the Botox procedure for Downey patients

Botox Downey - Beautiful blonde woman Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered who the person was looking back at you? Does that person look a bit more like your mother and a bit less like the younger you that you remember? It's common that over time, repetitive facial habits – smiling, laughing, concentrating, and frowning – can cause fine lines and wrinkles across the forehead and throughout the face. Now, patients in Downey can erase those lines and wrinkles and get back their youthful appearance. Botox works by giving the muscles in the face a chance to relax, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Patients who are considering Botox often want more information about the procedure. Dr. Douglas Blose of the Douglas A. Blose, M.D., Inc. Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery explains how the Botox procedure.

Before treatment, Dr. Blose suggests that patients refrain from taking pain relievers such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or aspirin to minimize the side effect of bruising. He also instructs patients to avoid the sun for a week or two before the procedure to ensure that the skin is not sunburned and to avoid waxing, tweezing, or using creams to remove hair in the treatment area. Finally, it's important to inform Dr. Blose of any medications that you're taking

During the procedure, the Botox will be injected into the facial muscles with a very small needle. Many patients say they feel only a tiny bit of discomfort during the procedure. One of the biggest benefits is that the entire treatment takes less than 10 minutes and patients can get back to their regular day quickly.

After the treatment, patients are advised to exercise the facial muscles for short periods. This can be accomplished by smiling, frowning, and raising your eyebrows. Patients are also instructed to avoid facial treatments, massages, saunas, or lying down for at least four hours after the treatment. Common side effects of Botox include bruising, tenderness, inflammation, and redness.

While it does take a week or two to notice the full results of the Botox procedure, the effects last for approximately four months. Dr. Blose will talk with you about follow up treatments and developing a schedule to maintain your results. If you're considering Botox, call the office of Dr. Blose today.
